Following the letter to Mrs. Janes and his performance at the Cenotaph yesterday, do you still believe it was inappropriate to question Brown about his health and medication ?

Fair enough but, in the cold light of day, shouldn't people be focusing on how they can use the existing democratic channels that Lisbon affords rather than trying to tinker with the EU yet still. See www.right2bet.net for the first campaign to try and utilise Lisbon's provision for citizens' initiative. Working within the EU's democratic structures need not prohibit lobbying for reform in other areas. Here's hoping grassroots campaigns like right2bet can make a difference.

It is only the media that promote Sugar's competence - and that's only for entertainment purposes.
Sure, he can claim some achievements in the commercial world - he built Amstrad, but frankly their products were very second-rate compared to the competition. The company was never going to grow to Sony proportions.
I think he fits well into the New Labour project - all spin, no substance.

Interesting post. Some thoughts:

Not only is a cap on immigration needed now, but a reversal in numbers is also required through the deportation of illegal immigrants and those that have overstayed their visas. The main problem, after Labour's deliberate open door policy, is our refusal to get serious about deportations. Who will advocate this and more importantly see it through?

On the moral relativism point. How do you see the Liz Truss furore? Would the local party be right to select someone else to stand because she had an affair a few year's ago?

Your idea of Muslims learning from the Jews is interesting. Good luck with that.

You idea for allowing heads to select pupils is contrary to official Conservative policy. Why will David Cameron not allow heads to select pupils?

And David Cameron has just told us that he will not be holding a referendum even on our general relationship with the EU. His speech was excellent, as they usually are - it was clear, logical and phrased in language that convinces the listener that things of benefit to the UK will be achieved - but it falls far short of your proposal.

It seems that you have a problem with the policy direction of the Conservative Party at the moment in too many key areas for things to hum along nicely. I look forward to seeing your response if British fortunes, after a decade of woeful Labour government, are not significantly improved under a David Cameron government. The jury is most definitely out.

Fortunately, the EU Parliament will shortly be strengthened. On the other hand, I think the appt of EU officials by state leaders does not contradict democratic principles because those leaders have been elected and repuplican democratic principles don't function as well directly at a very large scale. If you are interested, here is a related post:

Dear Nigel,

You obviously have a major problem with the people of this great nation and your alarmist views are to be expected from someone who believes in the delusion of god. I would go as far to say that your misuse of the facts is almost on a par with the church's misuse of the fiction it represents. The only blight on the UK is the church and all religion. The law is what counts and in spite of religious influences, we are a good, moral and compassionate country. Having lived in many other countries, I am qualified to say this. You aren't. There is no place in our democracy for any religion - why should ridiculous views based on falsehoods and fictional concepts be thrown down the throats of normal people whoi live in a peacable manner. You are a disgrace to this great nation and should not be using politics to try and deal with your own insecurities.

Here here. What a disgusting show of disrespect from Marr, he should apologise to Gordon Brown for his lack of professionalism and general sub-standard tactics. He should also apologise to the viewers for wasting the opportunity on his ill thought out, irrelevant and insignificant questions.

I am livid at this cock sure level of manipulation by the press, in fact, I find it outrageous, criminal even for them to misinterpret and edit facts that we are all entitled to base our opinion on to the extent that they no longer reflect the truth.
I have to add that I have been trying to comment on various web sites in support for Brown but they have not been published. I am finding that unless you praise the Tories, you do not get a say. This is getting too much like a media controlled dictatorship and soon nobody will be entitled to free speech. It has to stop NOW. And Marr, the BBC, Sky News, The Sun, they’re all at it.

The citizens of this country have a right to know if their Prime Minister needs medication which could affect his judgement.

You say: "Gordon Brown’s stewardship both as Chancellor and PM provides no end of mistakes and decisions to take issue with, not least GB’s handling of the economy.".

It is quite possible that his mistakes and poor decisions have been the result of the side-effects of medication , and so it was a perfectly reasonable question in the circumstances.
